Thank you Manish for this lovely piece ....u guys sure ate a lot ;). We had been to Goa a long while ago, must be close to 7 yrs now. I did make a business trip there last year, but that wasn't as much fun as being there on a holiday :) Thank you for rekindling good ol' memories. Over to Manish..... We are back from our Goa trip and heres a brief update for your blog....... We started from Delhi on Trivandrum Rajdhani which leaves Hazrat Nizammudin at 1100 hrs and reached Goa the next day at 1500 hrs a full 1 day and 5hrs. We have been enquired a number of times as to why we didnt take a flight and all about flight fares being cheaper. Of course, flight fares have nosedived and we have no nostalgia attached to good old train journey but still train remains cheaper especially if you are travelling with small kids. "The hilly lake town" Away from the humdrum of city life, lies the town of Nainital amongst the hills in Uttaranchal. Nainital , they say, was home to Jim Corbett. As always, in India, for every monument/ landmark that exists, there is a legend, mythology or history to support its existence :) "Naini" tal gets its name from the "eye of Sati". As the tale goes, Sati, the first wife of Lord Shiva burnt herself in a pyre to avenge the insult that her father inflicted on her beloved, Lord Shiva. While she burnt herself, Lord Shiva tried to rescue her, and helplessly carried her burning body through Bharat ( India ). Her eye (hindi : nain), they say, fell where the Naini lake stands today. Kashmir - a paradise on earth

The Farsi poet once said - Agar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast, Hameen ast-o hameen ast-o hameen ast in the context of Kashmir. It translates as - if there were a paradise on earth, it is here! Truly blessed by mother nature - its gorgeous landscapes, glacial fed rivers, valleys, snow capped or rocky mountains, little streamlets, abundance of flora are a treat to the eyes and the soul. Why then would we ever want to wash our hands off it. No way! This time around - May 2024, we decided to cover offbeat Kashmir as we had visited the regular tourist spots back in 2004/05. The holiday was an extension after P's conference. We had over 10 days with us. We roped in a friend this time who was keen on visiting Kashmir on condition that we accompany her.
